Wikipedia:
The cayenne pepper—also known as the Guinea spice, Cow Horn Pepper, aleva or bird pepper or, especially in its powdered form, red pepper—is a hot, red chili pepper used to flavor dishes and for medicinal purposes. Named for the city of Cayenne in French Guiana, it is a cultivar of Capsicum annuum related to bell peppers, jalapeƱos, and others. The Capsicum genus is in the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
Chili pepper (from Nahuatl chilli, chilli pepper, chilli, chillie, chili, and chile) is the fruit[1] of plants from the genus Capsicum, members of the nightshade family, Solanaceae.
There are varities of Cayenne peppers. The more hot and less spicy, its more medicinal. Best Cayenne pepper is kashmiri chilli, which is more hot and less spicy, and  long and wrinkle  when dried.
